ANOTHER ANIMAL!

What an eventful life i have. Who knew just after the cat naming episode we will have another new animal in our life to name!

That day I was very upset. There were lot of reasons, can not decide which one was more prominent. Anyway, in the evening I was coming out of the college and saw this squirrel being rescued from the water. It was cold, hurt in the left eye, choking, shivering; I had to take it up to my room , after all I am a squirrel saver's sister. My sister used to save fallen squirrels during her Bangalore days and pet them. Now she lives in Perdue. I nervously called her up without thinking of the time gap (thankfully it was not middle of the night or not even her lab time). In the mean time I had dried it up and collected warm milk for it. My sister gave me some hope that a male squirrel has a better chance of surviving and asked me to contact a vet immediately.

Mates from my neighbouring rooms had collected but was equally clueless. Diksha, a hostel mate from second floor, came to ask for a book in our rooms in the midst of all this and she seems to know about animal rescues. We looked for a few shelters but no body took care of squirrels. So we started looking for vets instead. Dikshas friend Shomit was downstairs and he had a bike. They rushed with the squirrel to the doctor and got it checked, cleaned and treated. But they did not admit the poor animal.

That night I had a deadline for a resubmission of a missed out assignment. (you know, the kind you can't defer any more, and if you do not submit you fail). The whole night kept on juggling my attention between the "Infrastructure" assignment and the "squirrel" assignment. He was restless throughout the night. It would shriek at the top of its voice every now and then as if seeing a night mare. Next day some how i submitted both my assignments; Infrastructure to sir, and the squirrel to an animal shelter far from the city. We had exams from next day and the shelter vet diagnosed our squirrel with a nerve problem.

We had trouble with naming in this case also. Diksha named him Chippy, Oindrila, my room mate named him Charki, I was calling him Stripes. He did not stay with us long enough for us to find out which name he liked most.

The Cats and The Girls

Finally we decided on the names of the cats. We are the girls in our SPA hostel. We stay at the the topmost floor in the east wing. There are 6 rooms and two girls in each of them. and we have two regular cats and several other visiting ones. I hate cats and I am scared of them too. My room mate Tinni always holds my hand when I have to go down the stairs and Teribilly is on the stairs. Its her favourite place to sit and its favourite passtime is to scare me. After an hour long discussion, the nasty black cat with yellow patches is finally named "Terribilly" (the close second option was "Horibilly" but was rejected due to its uncanny siginificance to some holy name; it can be anything but holy). The white cat is named Possibilly by Sashu after some charecter in some book (she reads a lot u see). And the other two visiting cats are finally named Probabilly and Incorigibilly. Probabilly has very less probability of coming to the top floor. They have their territory divided -- two cats for every two bathrooms. Incorigilbilly always pees on clothes or mattresses that we put to dry on the terrace.
Every other day we see new cats in the hostel and have to fast decide on their names. We are hoping against hope that in this name series we would not run out of names for them, ....... Feebilly, Stabilly, Pebbilly, Doubilly (for symmetrical twins), .......
